Term 2 Proud Moments

Term 2 Proud Moments

This term I am proud of my science board I think it turned out good and it was well written, it turned out better than I expected,I like the background it ties in nicely with my question.

I am also proud of my reading because I have moved up a lot and I am reading at 13.5 to 14.5 which more than a year above my age.

I am proud of the tough kid challenge because I had lots of fun with my friends and I came 3rd, although I didn't go to the actual competition I am still proud.

I am proud of my tsunami explanation because I think I explained it clearly and my model is awesome.

Inquiry Term 2

Here is a video of my model:

Tsunami
How does a tsunami Form?

tsunami-geology-2.jpgHave you ever wondered how a tsunami forms?
Tectonic plates and friction are included in the vital process.

tsunami-geology-3.jpgTsunamis can be triggered by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions or underwater landslides. Firstly the plate tectonic forces the oceanic plate into the mantle, then the plates get stuck and friction starts.

The stuck plate continues to descend into the mantle. As a result of this, an accumulation of energy starts (this energy is very similar to the energy stored in compressed springs). The energy in the overriding plate can accumulate for decades even centries.

The energy accumulates in the overriding plate until it moves the frictional forces between the stuck plates. When this happens the overriding plate snaps into a loose position. This impulsive motion is the cause of a Tsunami because it gives an enormous shove to the overlying water, at the same time the inland areas of the overriding plate are lowered.

The moving wave travels out along the ocean basin at the same time water floods the recently lowered shore. A lot of people mistake tsunamis for a single wave but they consist of various waves which are all different shapes and sizes. Tsunami’s can go as high as 30 metres which is as big as a 10 storey building.

Tsunamis are very powerful and can kill a lot of animals and people they also  damage quite a few buildings.

Reflection 11/3/2016

This week we did our last filming video on the disappearing act and have started computer coding. For coding we did a game, in the game you had to drag the move forward block(or turn left or right etc) into a special place and then hit run, then the character will follow that command.I am looking forward to it next week.In writing we worked with  a buddy and got given a sheet with printed paragraphs (and subtitles etc) on it, then we got given a bank piece of paper, we had to cut out the paragraphs and subtitles and rearrange them on the paper then glue them on.In maths we did tree diagrams, here is a picture of mine, this shows the options you could make in paper, scissors, rock, and the things you could win if you were the person on the left.We started designing a bridge, but first we started looking at bridge types I enjoyed doing this. Here is a quote that inspires me:

My fair inquiry reflection

For our inquiry this term, we had to work together to create our fair stall. The focus was how well we worked together with others.

On the night of the fair, my stall made a total profit of $400.50c I think it went well because we all came at the right time and worked efficiently. We also put the hoops in a good place so not everyone got something but they wanted to come back and have another go.We also got donated a lot of toys.

Below are my reflections and self-assessment of how I think I did...
